What is an orthotic? An orthotic is a device that assists the foot to function in a more normal and balanced manner. Orthotics fit into your shoes, including workout shoes, dress shoes and riding boots.
Evaluation of the spine and lower limbs for alignment, range of motion, muscle strength, imbalance and mobility problems is essential before getting custom made orthotics.
FACTORS THAT AFFECT THE POSITON OF THE FOOT
- One leg shorter than the other
- Flat feet
- High arches
- Scoliosis
- Tight calves
- Weakness in the ankle and foot
MUSCLE IMBALANCE AROUND THE FOOT AND ANKLE LEAD TO:
- Quadriceps over powering the hamstrings
